Sir George Everest lived long before Everest was first climbed; he merely recorded it for the first time, as Peak XV (or Peak 15).
It was not until after he died that the mountain was named Everest in his honour.
George Mallory climbed on Mount Everest in 1921, 1922 and 1924. His first proper attempt at the summit was in 1924 but nobody knows if he reach the top or not.
