I believe the date was September 1939, very shortly after the outbreak of war. The bombs were dropped near a clock tower at Harrow and Wealdstone. ∙ 13y agoThe first air raid of World War II was launched on the 16th October, 1939, by German bombers on British warships in the Royal Dockyard at Rosyth, and on the Forth Bridge. The German planes were engaged by RAF Spitfires from 602 Squadron based at Drem and 603 Squadron from Turnhouse and two bombers were shot down. Three ships were damaged and fifteen sailors killed. The Germans who died where buried in the near by hamlet of Pattiesmuir they flew Heinkel He 111 bombers.
