Upon graduating from Purdue, Armstrong decided to try to become an experimental test-pilot, specifically a research pilot. He applied at the Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards-air-force-base. They had no positions so they passed on the application to the Glenn Research Center in Cleveland Ohio, where he started working in February 1955. He was there for only five months before taking a position at Edwards. Taken from Answers.com
