Supreme Law of the Land

Article V of the United States Constitution establishes that the Constitution, the laws passed by Congress, and treaties of the United States "shall be the supreme Law of the Land." Known as the supremacy clause, it went into effect when the Constitution was ratified by the ninth state, New Hampshire, on 21 June 1788.
