Moors (Muslims living in medieval times), Jews, and anyone who was not Christian that lived in Spain, were given two options: convert to Christianity or you will be kicked out. Spain, at this time, controlled all of the Iberian Peninsula, and as a result of the Spanish Reconquista, the Iberian Peninsula was ultimately 100% Christian.
Muslims in Spain used to be called MOORS, although in modern times, the term is considered somewhat derogatory. The current term for them is Berbers or Amazigh.

Rodrigo de Vivar, also known as "El Cid" or "el Campeador". had a very complex relationship with the various Islamic and Christian States in Medieval Spain. At various times, he served the Banu Hud who led the Taifa of Zaragoza, an Islamic State. At other times, he served Alfonso VI, King of Castille, the dominant Christian Kingdom. Still at other times, he struck out on his own, in order to found the city-state of Valencia, even as he remained an ally to both the Banu Hud, other Islamic Taifas, and the Castillians in fighting the Islamic Almoravids.

It depends on which Moors you are referring to. There were Moors of the Eastern Hemisphere and there were also Moors of the Western Hemisphere, oriental and occidental. When most people do research they hear about the Moors of the Eastern Hemisphere from Africa and Spain. What is not known is that the Moors were a global people. They were also native, indigenous, autochthon, aboriginals of North, Central, South America and the Caribbean islands before the times of slavery and Christopher Columbus. After slavery they were labeled and tagged as Blackamoors, free negros, free blacks, free colored people, blacks, colored, West Indian, Afro/African American(s), second class citizens.
