The Battle of Britain was the aerial conflict between the Luftwaffe & the RAF in WW2. After the fall of France & Dunkirk (June 1940) the Luftwaffe bombed British airfields & the RAF was in a desperate time. For strategic reasons the Germans switched theitr attack to civillian targets, notably London & Coventry & British naval & dockyard bases. This was known as the Blitz. Gradually the defences were improved and the British began to destroy the German bomber forces in greater numbers. The aerial offensive ended when Hitler turned to the East & launched Barbarossa, the attack on Russia, in June of 1941. Britain was again attacked by aerial warfare by the V1 (Doodlebug) weapons in 1944, as well as the V2 missiles, which were devastating, though mercifully for a relatively brief time. Basically the Battle of Britain was during the Summer & Autumn of 1940.
