May 10, 1969. It was actually completed in 1873 with the completion of the bridge over the Missouri river between Council Bluffs, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska. Prior to that they would have to stop and ferry the passengers and freight across the river.

May 10, 1869 was when they drove the golden spike in Utah when the tracks met.
