the first batsman to be given out by a video umpire was sachin tendulkar in 1992 versus south africa. it was the first time a decision was referred to a third umpire regarding a run out. i don't know when the third umpire was first used for disputable catches but it was probably in the 90's sometime.
in the 2002 champions trophy in sri lanka a pakistan batsman (can't remember his name or who it was against, but it was the first match of the tournamant) was the first to be given out lbw using the ever-controversial 'hawk-eye', but this technology was only on trial during this tournament.
