There are many fly fishing venues in Tuscany (Italy). Let's start from northern Tuscany: The Magra River is a well known river between the regions of Tuscany and Liguria. It is populated by Brown Trout, chub, barbel and carp. Various kinds of sea fish will swim upstream during variuos season. These include, Mullet, Shad, and Sea bass. A little more to the south there are the Serchio River and the Lima River. Both are free stone appenine streams inhabited by beautiful wild brown trout. Just north of Florence there is the Sieve River Tailwaters with some nice sized brown trout. More to the south there is a fantastic Tailwater called Tevere Tailwaters. This is a no kill zone with brown trout and grayling. Both actively breed and the fishing there is extremely interesting and challenging. As far as fishing seasons - trout waters usually open the last Sunday of February and ends the first Sunday of October. The Tevere Tailwaters usually open on the 1st of May and close on 31st of December. Methods that work are dry fly fishing, nymphing and streamers. The licensing requirements in Italy are quite complicated. The fishing is great but conditions are challenging when compared to the wide open spaces of other countries For information and pictures www.mbrods.it
