When does fusion occur?

In the sun and all the other stars it is going on all the time, using the hydrogen contained at great pressure and temperature at the star's core. Controlled fusion on earth has not been achieved yet except for a brief period, less than 1 second, and this involved heating a gas plasma containing hydrogen isotopes to very high temperature, hundreds of millions of degrees, in a torus shaped device known as a tokamak. A magnetic field constrains the ionised plasma into a circular path. This type of device may be successful in the future in achieving steady fusion power, but it will take many years to develop.

The other occurrence is in H-bombs.

When a suffecient amount of energy is supplied to the atom then they form bonds and then we can say fusion occur but genrally during fusion energy is released.
