For the most common size that you would be doing it in. Line it with a 3RL, and then do your edges with 5RS. Then do the middle fill with a 15RS. The bigger the letters, the bigger the shade needle size and in some instances, the liner as well.

What is the best size tattoo needle to use for coloring and outlining?

That would all depend on the size and the intricacy of what you are doing.

Can you use a flat tattoo needle to make an outline like you can use a magnum tattoo needle?

You can if you need to, but I would not recommend doing this for a whole tattoo. Not that there is anything wrong with it per se, but you are taking at risk unneeded trauma to the skin with this configuration as opposed to using a nice tight Round Liner.

How do you identify the correct tip for the needle when doing a tattoo?

The size of the needle and the size of the tip should match unless you are using bugpin needles, in which case the tip should be two sizes smaller than the needle.

What needle and tips to use for shading a tattoo?

That all depends on the size of the tattoo that you are doing, and what you are trying to accomplish whether it be soft shading, coloring, etc. If you are using disposable tube and needle combos, which you should, then the appropriate sized tip will be included with the needle. However, since you must ask I will take it that you are new to the game, so practice on your own legs before you ever tattoo another person and be safe. Best of luck.

What are some short term health risks for getting a tattoo?

Infections since tattoos are open skin procedure.Keep your skin clean and make sure to ask the person (who is doing your tattoo) if the needle is cleaned and sanitized.I also have to say, DONT GET A TATTOO! You ruin your skin that way! You also can get cancer!!!

Why age do children have too be to get a tattoo?

Children shouldn't be getting tattoed lol. Legal age to get tattooed is 18 but some kids find their way around this, by doing it them selves (with pen ink and a needle) or by getting some one they know that does tattoos to tattoo them.

Can you use a3 liner to do a whole tattoo?

If you are doing a REALLY small tattoo such as small lettering, then maybe. I wouldn't personally do it though. What you are trying to accomplish with a tattoo, is to push as much ink into the skin in your first pass without chewing up the skin and scarring it up. A needle of this size is simply not a smart or safe choice. You will invariably have to do really small grouping, overlapping into the already semi-chewed up skin, and you will undoubtedly have a lot of scarring in the tattoo. This will prolong the healing time immensely, will most likely push a lot of the ink out of the skin during the healing time, and will leave a splotchy final appearance. You need the right needle for the right job. I was told when I was learning, and I tell it to those that are learning, it is best to think of tattoo needles like paint brushes. You look at what you need to do, and what effect that you are going for, and then make your selection from there. But the first and foremost rule, as I said, is that you want to push as much ink in the first pass as you can, so the size of the needle needs to be of appropriate size. Otherwise, your simply making things harder for yourself, and will most likely come out with a bad result at the end.
