Be sure the dash illumination dimmer switch is not turned off.
The dash illumination dimmer switch is shut off or broken.
You connect the positive one (commonly orange/white) to your dash lights positive.
Check fuses, check dash light dimmer switch. Do your parking lights come on when you turn them on with your head light switch. Check for power to all.If you've just installed an aftermarket stereo then this might be the solution for you: On most aftermarket stereos there's no wire connection for the Dimmer and/or Illumination (or there's a hook up for either the Illumination or Dimmer wire) and usually most people just tape them off and push them back. Well in the Chevrolet Malibu all of the Instrument Panel (to include the factory stereo) are wired together so that if one wire is disconnected it all goes out. So in order for you to get your Instrument Panel lights working again you must splice the two wires together. In laymans terms, you have to connect the Dimmer wire [Brown (not striped)] and the Illumination wire [Grey (not striped)] together. If your problem was the same as mine then this should do the trick
I guess your talking about the dimmer it gets spliced into dash lights after switch.
where does the yellow wire with a black stripe on it connect for dimmer lights, panel lights, and gear shift lights, for a 2000 Mitsubishi galant
You turned off the dash light brightness control switch or blew a fuse. If you have power at the dash illumination fuse, the dimmer switch may be faulty.
Replace your Head light switch. All of these circuits run through that switch.i just had this same problem but on my '97 Chevy Malibu... if you've just installed an aftermarket stereo then this might be the solution for you: On most aftermarket stereos there's no wire connection for the Dimmer and/or Illumination (or there's a hook up for either the Illumination or Dimmer wire) and usually most people just tape them off and push them back. Probably because the dimmer switch is turned off. Turn the dimmer switch up and see if the dashlights and radio illumination lamps come on.
As I recall, there is no relay involved in this. When you say dashlight, you mean the lights on the guages when the headlights are on? (gauge illumination) When you say taillights, do you mean the 'running lights' that are on when the headlights are on, or the brake lights? If you are describing both running lights and guage illumination, then that would point to faulty light switch, loose ground wire under the dash, or fault in supply wiring. The gauge illumination has a dimmer module which can be faulty (but very unlikely to affect exterior lights) If one of these is the gauge illumination, and the other is the brake lights, then this would point to a faulty ground wire connection as the supply circuits to these two functions is not common.
Illumination wire. Connect it to your dash lights' 12v+ so that when you turn your lights on at night, the lights on the head unit dim so they aren't blindingly bright.
No. There is no illumination, speed or retained accesory power in the factory radio. It is accomplished with car's CANbus communication. To hookup illumination wire on 2006 VW Jetta, tap into white/black wire at the light switch. It dims your lights on your radio. You can also set up different color for day and night.
