When is electricity wasted?

Answer:
Most electricity in the world is produced by burning fossil fuel, coal, oil and natural gas. This adds to the carbon dioxide greenhouse gas in the atmosphere.

We can save electricity by:
  • turning off lights when we leave a room.
  • turning off heating and air conditioning when nobody is home.
  • turning computers and other appliances off at the wall, rather than leaving them on stand-by.
  • get rid off that old second fridge that's running in the garage.
  • stop using the clothes dryer; hang the clothes out to dry in the sun and wind.
  • use the clothes washing machine only when you have a full load.
  • just boil enough water in the kettle for what you need.
  • Microwaves and pressure cookers cook food much more quickly and save energy.
