From 1775 to the present (January 2010), there have been 34 Commandants of the Marine Corps. The first Commandant of the Marine Corps was Samuel Nichols. The 'United States Marine Corps' birthday is Nov. 10. In recognition of the Marine Corps birthday "ALL" Marine Corps bases around the world have the "Marine Corps Ball" on Nov. 10. Even in South Carolina. Probably at Parris Island.
