TURN YOUR WHEEL ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT, (IF YOUR PARKING ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE), AND ROLL THE CAR UNTIL THE WHEEL IS TOUCHING THE CURB. ALSO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. AND IF IT IS A MANUAL CAR, PUT IT IN GEAR. Steps for if you are driving on the right-side of the road. 1. Put on your right-hand signal to indicate that you are pulling over to the side. 2. Pull into your parking spot and parallel the car within inches to the curb. 3. Put the car into neutral while applying the brakes. 4. Dry-steer the wheel to the left and slowly let go of the brakes into you feel the passenger side tire touch the curb. 5. Put the car into park and pull the emergence brake.
In countries where you drive on the right side of the street, when parking on the up slope of a hill turn your steering wheel to the left or towards the center of the street.
This is done to prevent your car from rolling into traffic. Gravity wants to pull the car down the hill and if the wheels are pointed towards the center of the street the car can only roll back until the front wheels contact the curb.
When parking on a down slope turn your wheels toward the sidewalk.
Parking on Hills
When parking on hills:
Turn your wheels so that if your car starts to move, it will roll away from traffic or into the curb. Study the diagram provided.
 Set the parking brake.
Place automatic gear shift in park. Shift manual gears to reverse (downhill) or first (uphill).
 Turn vehicle off.
With curb turn it away from it.
with no curb turn wheels to the right.
when parking heading downhill, point the front wheels towards the curb.
I engage the hand brakes and also engage the reverse gear. I found it is very effective.
wheels away from curb
Away from the curb
Downhill into curb, uphill away from hill
Towards curb
You should point your wheels away from the curb when parking up hill and toward the curb when parking down the hill. You want the vehicle to immediately make contact with the curb if is rolls.
if you parking uphill you turn your wheel towards the curb and if you parking down hill you turn it away
they do that so it does not roll down hill
so your car doesnt roll down the hill
When parking uphill with a curb, turn your wheels away from the curb and set the parking brake. When parking uphill without a curb, turn your wheels towards the edge of the road or shoulder and use the parking brake. When parking downhill with a curb, turn your wheels towards the curb and use the parking brake. When parking downhill without a curb, turn your wheels towards the edge of the road or shoulder and use the parking brake.
Don't leave the engine on. Set the parking brake and turn the wheels toward the curb.
when you are parking UPhill.supposedly then if the car rolls the wheels will contact the curb and stop the car. Down hill turn to the right
yes leave it in gear as well just in case it fails if automatic turn wheels towards the curb if parking with the nose of car facing down the hill and away if the back of car is facing down the hill
Into the curb ... so it won't roll. On a two way street (in the USA) that would be to the right.
If you are parked on level ground or facing downhill, you should turn your wheel towards the curb, so that the front of the tire is facing the curb. This way, if your car begins to roll down the hill or is struck from behind, it will be forced into the curb. If you are parked facing up a hill, you should turn your wheel away from the curb, so that the back of the tire is facing the curb. This way, if your car begins to roll down the hill, it will be forced to stop on the curb. Always apply your parking brake when parking on a hill.
When facing down the hill - turn the wheels toward the curb when facing up the hill - turn the wheel away from the curb
