Forager bees will return to where the hive was. When they can't find it they will look for a hive nearby (within a matter of a few metres). If they find one they will enter that hive and become one of that colony.

If there is no hive nearby, they will eventually die: how quickly will depend on weather conditions and overnight temperature.

A beekeeper will try to avoid this situation happening by moving hives in the evening after all foragers have returned to the hive.

If the queen bee dies, one of the worker bees will feed 1 of the larvae that is growing a royal jelly. This will turn the larvae into a queen bee. It does sound silly, but it's true.

Can bees survive without a queen?

If a queen dies, then the worker bees will feed royal jelly to some of the larvae and they will turn into queen bees. The first one out will kill all the others, so there will only be one Queen Bee in the hive. This is still a dead end until the queen finds a drone, mates and gets down into the business of egg laying.

What do female bees do in the hive?

female bees make honey and do other things in the hive Answer: With the exception of a few male (drones) in the hive all bees in a hive are female. They do all the work. The only task the males have is to mate with the new queens if the hive swarms or if the present queen dies

Why are only queen bees able to reproduce?

Although worker bees are also female, they are sterile because they don't mate with drones. Normally a queen emits a pheromone which inhibits workers from egg-laying. If the queen dies, after a few days some workers may start to lay eggs, but these can only hatch into drones.

Why do drones die after mating with the queen bee?

i think it dies It does die. The male bee (drone) actually deposits its genitalia inside the queen bee in a semi-explosive transfer that can be heard as an audible popping. Such a vivsections commits the Drone to a rather painful suffering and eventual death.

How old can a honeybee become before it dies?

A queen honeybee lives a protected and 'easy' life. She can live three to four years! But drones or worker bees have an average lifespan of a few weeks (1 month) to months (about 6 months). Worker bees can get evicted from the hive! Without the hive and its protection, the evicted bees will die.

What forms do honeybees use to reproduce asexually?

Drone Bees are Males. Queen Bees are females. During the mating flight, Drones from one or more hives deposit sperm inside the queen. When the Queen Bee lays her eggs, she may allow one sperm to enter the egg and fertilize it. That will create a female bee. If she does not allow a sperm to enter the egg, it will be asexual reproduction. It will produce a Drone, or male bee. In spite of the fact that the Queen Bee had sex, Drones, or male bees are produced without sex, or asexually. In addition, if something happens to the queen and she dies or disappears, the worker bees can lay eggs. They never had sexual contact. All the eggs they lay will turn into Drones. The bees can feed pollen to several of the developing bees and turn them into Queen Bees. One of them kills the rest and then mates with the drones produced from the eggs laid by the workers.
