When you are on a hill, going down a hill.
Never use it in heavy traffic, when it is raining, when towing, or when there is ice or snow on the road.
It should not be used when:
Usually when the car is below 25-20 mph (miles per hour) but you should'nt use it when you are travelling on hilly terrain (going up and down hilly areas) the cruise will try to compensate by shifting to a lower gear(on a auto trans.) wich will lower M.P.G. to try to make the speed constant, if you are going uphill stay in the same gear if possible and wait till the downhill crest comes on to make the speed constant, gain as much speed as legally possible(usually 5 M.P.H. over depending on the strictness of the police) then dont use it (cruise) till you come to a relativly sp? flat area. should help with long trip M.P.G s.
Cruise control should not be used if you are not on a highway, during reduced visibility, in construction zones, or when road conditions are hazardous.
Never use it in heavy traffic, when it is raining, when there is ice or snow on the road, on a very hilly road, or on a road with lots of curves. Mainly use it on 4 lane interstates or parkways.

I have a Ford Taurus 92, and my cruise control is right on the steering wheel. There is an "on and off" switch on the wheel, and you click the on, and a cruise control button should be under those. (be sure to click "on" before you click the c.c.)
It can but I would advise against it.
