Main drain line is stopped up. Main Line under house is clogged. Hydro Jet cleaning will last for several years. Roto Router won't. If you have 2"drain, I was told changing to 3' plastic would solve the problem. Have the Main line Roto Rootered as for 2" pipe I should hope that the pipe is at least 3" Diameter (3" minimum size pipe for toilet by code)If the main sewer line is less than 3" skip the snake just repipe. Hydo-Jetting has its uses but this is probably not one of them.

In all honestly, there could be a million different things that are wrong. If you've had a high amount of recent rain, there could be flooding. Something could be clogging the pipes (hard water build-up). Maybe the whole system is just screwed up. One of the only real ways to tell is to get a professional plumber to check it over.

The sewer drain is blocked or partially blocked. You will probably need a plumber to unblock it.

When it comes to the laundry drain line unlike other drains in the house it handles a massive amount of water very quickly. Other drains in the house like the shower or lavatory sink can usually be maintained by snaking periodically when needed. But the laundry needs to handle to much volume for snaking the line to be effective. Snaking just makes a small diameter hole in the middle of the line usually about 40% of the pipes inner diameter. Most washing machines need every bit of a drain line to not spill out the top of the stand pipe.

There are two options if this is a common problem for you. First option is to hydro jet line with high pressure water. This will get the pipe back to its original size and is typically much cheaper then replacing. Option 2 is to bite the bullet and replace the line with new abs piping. Drain lines from the 1950′s and 60′s just can't handle the flow of today's washers. Once replaced you will have no problems.

This is "backing up" . The term refers to the water in the soil pipe not fully clearing and when an outlet flushes through the pipe cannot cope with the volume. If this is a recent issue then it certainly means you have a blockage somewhere in the main waste in the house to the sewer access. It would be a wise move if you can do it to find the access chamber between your home and the main sewer area and try flushing through - if its a slow trickle then you have a a blockage from that point back to the house. If the chamber is already full you have a issue that the access to the sewer is blocked.

The main line is either partially clogged or collapsed. When the washer empties, that is more water than the drain can handle so it backs up into the easiest place. Possibly tree roots in the line or it has collapsed at some point. That is for a sewer line. If you have a septic tank, it probably needs to be pumped out or the lateral field is full. In either case, a plumber should be able to run a camera down the line to see what the problem is.

Possible cheap fix. Plunge the basement toilet real well and then use a 5 gallon bucket to pour water into the toilet bowl as fast as it will take it without running over. If it takes the water, pour a second bucket in the same way. This will sometimes flush out a partial blockage.

Blocked line in the outflow part.Check at a Y connection if it's accessible. If you can't get to it, you can try snaking it from the tub drain. Use extreme caution if using an electric snake.

it might be a clogged vent pipe, look at it first, if some think was added or changed in a remodel and its not plumbed in or vented right.

What would cause foul odor in bathroom when washing machine is draining?

Sounds to me like you have a clog in one of your pipes. This causes water from the washing machine to drain into other pipes instead of going down the main line properly. Check the bathtub when the washing machine is draining... they're notorious for filling with old yicky washing machine water! The clog can possibly be in a line ion the house, or possibly be caused by roots in the main line. Sounds like it's time to hire a plumber! Good luck!!
