It depends on your veterinarian's training. Dogs recover more quickly and experience less pain when they are between 8 weeks and 5 months old. However, not all veterinarians are trained to perform surgery on young dogs. If you can't find a good veterinarian trained to spay a young dog, have her spayed at 6 months or as close after that as possible. If she is spayed before her first heat, she will reap many more health advantages than if she experiences even one heat cycle.

The neuter surgery should be done when the dog is young and healthy, usually between 5 and 8 months old. In the female, ideally before the first heat.

Also, be sure to not get her spayed too early, some vets will say it can be done as early as two or three months. This can lead to bladder problems for life (i.e. fallen bladder, frequent urination and difficulty controlling bladder). Trust me, it's not fun!

It's best if it's a puppy but you can have your dog spayed at any age. Wait until the dog is at least six months old. The ovaries release necessary hormones for proper growth, and the dog can be stunted or not mature properly if they are removed too early. The same holds true for a male dog's testicles.

ASAP!

If you are going to spay a dog, do it when they are full grown (1 year old) or they might get problems. Spaying can give problems even when they are full grown too though.

It is best to have your dog spayed prior to her first heat to prevent both an unwanted litter of puppies as well as significantly reduce the risk of developing mammary cancer later in life. Most dogs will have their first heat cycle at 6-8 months of age; in the United States, most veterinarian recommend spaying a dog at 4 months of age, at the same time she gets her first rabies vaccination. A shelter veterinarian who is experienced in spays can often spay a puppy as young as 2 months, provided its body weight is sufficient for anesthesia.

You should take your female dog to a vet for an exam and any needed vaccinations. The vet will advise when your bitch can be spayed. Large dogs come into heat after 5 or 6 mos, toy dogs a bit later. Don't wait! Make that vet appt. now!

It all depends on the size, gender and breed of the dog. Ask your vet.

The smartest time to get a female dog spayed is between 3 and 8 months. It is not advised to get your female dog before that time, as this causes problems later in life.

For male dogs, 3-7months is the general time, although some people wait longer, up to 18 months.

Some vets say to get your pup spayed/neutered at 10-12 weeks. This isn't safe for females, and your taking a chance with males.

Dogs fixed before 12 weeks have more housebreaking problems later. (can't hold themselves)

Puppies can be spayed as young as 8 weeks, although 16 weeks is more common. It is strongly recommended that all female puppies that are not being considered for showing or breeding be spayed prior to their first heat cycle, as this decreases the risk of Breast cancer by over 99%.

If you are asking about when to spay (Ovariohysterectomy) a bitch, it can be done as early as eight weeks...but it is best to wait until the growth plates close on many breeds.

Any age, some even when there are puppies. I suggest spaying when your dog is 1 year old.

Another answer

Male dogs is from four to six months, females are six months usually or close to that age.and it needs to have sex

A bitch can be spayed from 5-6 months of age on, if you have decided not to breed with your dog then it is best to spay her before her first oestrus cycle as this will significantly reduce the chance of her developing mammary tumours later on in life.

when you first get it unless it is already spayed

You should get them spayed pretty early in life, so they don't get pregnant, so about when they are one year old.

She can be spayed any time after eight weeks of age, and preferably before her first heat for the best health benefits. The first heat cycle occurs somewhere around six months of age, depending on the breed.

* Spayed before her first heat, a female has almost zero chance of getting mammary gland cancer. After the first heat, the chance is only 7 percent; 25 percent after the second heat. Past that (even far, far past), spaying will still reduce risk. * Spaying prevents pyometra, a common, life-threatening infection of the uterus. Typically, it's middle-aged (or older) females who get it, about six weeks after a heat cycle. The treatment is an emergency spay.
