The BBC was formed in the early 1920s as a radio broadcaster. After John Logie Baird demonstrated his television system in 1925, the BBC adopted the technology and began regular broadcasting of television programs from London in 1929. That was the first television channel but it was very limited. The output was limited to an hour or two each day, a far cry from the 24 hour channels that we expect today. Television was very much a novelty at the time. Owning a television meant that viewers could watch what were little more than test broadcasts at the time.
