The USSR shot down the U-2 flown by Francis Gary Powers and derailed the Eisenhower and Kruchev Arms Limitation Talks.

The U-2 piloted by Francis Gary Powers was shot down over Sverdlovsk, USSR on 1 May 1960 by a SAM-2. Powers was convicted of espionage on 17 Aug 1960 by a USSR court and sentanced to 10 years in prision. Powers was exchanged for a Soviet spy on 10 Feb 1962.
