The traditional answer is that it began with Abraham, who was estimated to have lived around 2000 BCE, which would make Judaism about 4000 years old. Archaeological evidence for Jews (called Israelites back then) goes back 3600 years.

Note: Judaism has grown and evolved significantly over this period. Many of the Mission Statements and Movements in Judaism did not develop until the 1700s even though they draw on texts and history from as early as the Biblical Period.
