Chevrolet first built a 4.7l V8 in 1917. But when merged they merged with General Motors in 1918, discontinued production until 1955, when V8 production resumed with 4.3l V8 for the C1 Corvette.

Ford
One of the first production automobile V8s was introduced in the United States in 1914 by Cadillac. Oldsmobile, another division of General Motors, introduced its own V8 engine in 1916. Chevrolet introduced a V8 engine in 1917 Ford introduced the V8 flathead engine in 1932. It was the first independently designed and built V8 engine produced by Ford for mass production. Oldsmobile introduced the V8 overhead valve engine in 1949.
