When was the first candy Peep sold?

In: Easter

1953

Peeps went into mass production in 1953.

In 1953, Just Born bought a local Pennsylvania confectioner called the Rodda Candy Company. The Rodda candy company had been making the Peeps for a little while but their main business and the reason for the buyout was their jelly beans. The Rodda candy company had been making them by hand and selling them in small quantities. It wasn't until Just Born took over and developed a way to mass produce them, that they took off. Now 700 million Peeps are sold each Easter in America.
