The first railroad trains, much like the ones we know today, ran in the 1820s; but the use of rails to ease transport dates back to the sixth century BCE. See the Wikipedia reference for more information.

Which part of the train?

Guided wheels (the most ? critical ? part) : back in Europe in the 16th century.

Steam engines - mostly England & Germany around 1790.

But it wasn't until about 1820 something that the parts got put together,

and the first real trains began to run in the mid 1830s.

Before that there were demos and models, but no real trains.
