The latest Loch Ness Monster sighting was on September 7th, 2011. On that day, a fish farm worker named Jon Rowe from Lewiston photographed a large, dark shape, in the water, near Dores Fish Farm, at around 8:30 AM local time.

The Loch Ness Monster is a cryptid that is reputed to inhabit Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands. The very first tale recounting a sighting of the beast was written in 565 A.D. In the story, Saint Columba saves a swimmer from a mysterious lake monster, although even the Catholic Church has its doubts as to the truth of the tale. However, the monster was not given the name "Loch Ness" at this point.

The Loch Ness Monster really only became known by this name after the Scottish newspaper, the "Inverness Courier", ran an article on 2 May 1933 about "A Strange Spectacle on Loch Ness". In the article, the writer reported how a Mr and Mrs John Mackay had seen an enormous creature in the loch near Aldourie Castle. The creature was playing, "rolling and plunging on the surface". After London papers published the story, the legend was created.

OK, here are some recent sightings of the Loch Ness monster I found on the Web. Of course, they may be fake, but anyway. I'm doing them in reverse order, from like just now to before.

15 October: The owner of the Loch Ness Caravan Park in Invermoriston, Robbie Girvan, was out walking his dogs at six PM. They were by the loch shore, and he said he saw a longe neck coming out of the water and had time to get hime, grab his camera, and get back to take five pictures. He said it was a 4 ft high head and neck. He was a non-believer, but he said the 'dark green and silvery' creature could only have been the Loch Ness.

9th September: A Master Mariner-retired-was sailing at 9 knots south of Urquhart Bay in a Caley Cruisers boat. They were overtaken by an unknown object. It was between them and the south coast. The sighting lasted many minutes. The whatever-it-was only disappeared when they moved toward it. (Sounds like it was watching them, if you ask me!) The captain, a common boat user on the loch, said there was no rational explanation.

28th August: Neil Mckenzie and Kelly Yeats-from Bridge of Dee-were staying at Foyers Bay House, and they saw what they said was a 'long-necked, curved headed' creature in the loch at 8:30 in the morning, and the sighting lasted ten minutes.

11th August: From Newcastle, Mr. Bell and his family saw what they said was the head of a large animal at six PM move through the loch. The family were the veranda of a holiday lodge in Foyers, and said the head was was larger than that of a cow, and about 1/3 of the way across the loch from them. As common visitors to that place they were convinced that it was a wave movement or boat wake.

And the next three are 2004, so you might not be interested, but just in case.

12th August: Tome Clegg-of Worcestershire-siad he saw three dark humps, 150m from the shore between Invermoriston and Fort Augustus. It was definitely animate, he said. And there was no boats in the area then. He saw it for 5 seconds.
