German Christian Huelsmeyer was the first to discover the effect of radar in 1904, but radar as we know it was invented and the acronym established in 1935 by three British scientists, Sir Robert Watson-Watt, A F Wilkins and H E Wimperis along with Sir Henry Tizard discovered its use putting it to exellent effect in World War 2.

It was being tested on December 7, 1941 when the Japanese were attacking Pearl Harbor, but when they saw evidence of a large number of airplanes comming in they thought it was a problem with the radar. The radar was working, the officers just didn't believe it. We had enough warning to have actually made a difference, but our military officers didn't trust the new technology.

RADAR as an acronym was coined in 1941, meaning Radio Detection and Ranging. Previous to this, RADAR was known as RDF (Radio Direction Finder). It is unclear when the word radar entered into common English usage as a standard word.

The radar speed gun was invented by Bryce K. Brown of Decatur Electronics in March 1954,[1] and was first used in Chicago, Illinois in April 1954.[citation needed] Patrolman Leonard Baldy was the first officer to issue a speeding ticket using the new device.

The above answer is false. It is a cut and paste from the wikipedia page and has no citation other than Decatur Electronics who seem to be using the claim of invention because they also manufacture radar guns. According to the National Academy of Engineers, John Barker invented the speed radar gun for traffic use in 1947. A search of the US Patent Office shows multiple patents filed between 1944 and 1949 by John Barker for the first radar gun, while Bryce Brown and Decatur Electronics do not have any patents filed until 1982.
