History on the post-it note:His name was Arthur (Art) Fry. When he was an employee for a company called 3m that made plastics, laminates and glues, he came across a glue on the shelf that was made by Spencer Silver. It was previously shelved because the glue was only half-glue and of no use as a real glue. In 1977, Art was looking for a paper to paper adhesive to keep leaflets from falling out of his hymnal and this adhesive of Silvers was perfect for it. The product was launched in 1977 but due to little response from the public, the Post it note was not marketed until 1980 and in the year 2000, they celebrated their 20'th anniversary. The inventor of the low-tack adhesive used on Post-it notes was 3M chemist Spencer Silver. Fellow 3M colleague Art Fry actually came up with the idea of using the adhesive on the back of a piece of paper, originally as a bookmark. He wrote notes on the bookmarks during development, and that helped to expand the uses of the product. 3M Post-it Notes were introduced in 1980.

The Post-it® Note was invented as a solution without a problem: Dr. Spencer Silver developed a unique, repositionable adhesive, but the 3M scientist didn't know what to do with his discovery. Then, six years later, a colleague of Dr. Silver, Art Fry, remembered the light adhesive when he was daydreaming about a bookmark that would stay put in his church hymnal. The rest is history

Post-it notes were invented by a man named Spencer Silver while trying to develop a strong adhesive in 1970. The adhesive he developed was weaker than those that were already on the market. It stuck to objects and paper, yet was easy to lift off, without leaving any residue. He knew it wasn't good for his intentional purpose, yet for some reason, he kept it.

Four years later an acquaintance of his, Arthur Fry, kept having diffuculty keeping his notes in his hymnal while singing in the church choir. That was when he got the idea to use Silver's adhesive on paper.

In 1980 Post-it notes were made commercially available to the public, and are now one of the most popular office products available.

At the 3M company a research scientist working on adhesives discovered one that did not work very well. An internal trial on paper samples was put aside as a failure but the discarded samples were used for scrap paper. The scientist pitched management to try marketing the paper with weak adhesive as a note saver and after much effort won approval. It became one of 3M's biggest sellers. 3M deserves credit for supporting internal entrepreneurship. BAT-NIGGAHH MY PENIS
