Took a while to catch on. Power companies like Con Ed Power and Light were concerned about fire hazards, rightfully so. Con Ed was up and running well almost thirty years- l879-l909) before electric Christmas lights- reduced power of course, caught on. I would imagine various decorators ( Santa-Trim) toy makers and people like Union Carbide ( Eveready flashlights and batteries) were more germane to the idea. They originally used low-power candles which posed a very vivid fire hazard. owing to the small sized bulbs required ( quite different from standard l00 watters)- electrified Christmas Trees did not become feasible until I believe about l905- Con Ed had been up and running since l879.
