I always base my hunting on the photoperiod, especially the moon, it has never failed me.
They'll start pushing does around Nov.8., Start chasing harder late that 2nd week and most breeding will be done by Nov.23
The northern KY deer rut is finally kicking off. The older does are in heat and the younger ones are coming in. The young bucks of KY are already chasing the does. They are just like young male humans. They will run and chase like there is no tomorrow. The older more mature bucks will chase aggressively as well but not as hard. A lot of the older bucks will sometimes wait and let the does come around them instead of chasing and making themselves vulnerable to hunters. So if you see a doe wait to shoot if there is a doe in sight a buck is not far behind this time of year.
Most deer in Oklahoma will shed their antlers in February. Some may shed as early as January and some may shed as late as March.

This year (2007) the rut peaked around the 15th of November. There was a secondary rut that followed about two weeks later.
The South Carolina deer rut or the peak of rut season for the Piedmont is between October 15th and November 15th.
The rut is when the bucks start chasing the does! Really, I have found the peak of the rut in Iowa to be the week of Veterans day. Give or take as deer are unpredictable but this has always been a HOT week.
