WeThe four major moon phases are "New," "1st Quarter," "Full," and "Last or 3rd Quarter." These phases have to do with the relative positions of the sun, the moon and the earth in the moon's 29 day monthly orbit of the earth.
For more information on when the next Full moon is, see the related links below.
One synodic month after the last full moon. In the time the moon completes one orbit of the earth (sidereal month), the earth has moved around in its orbit around the sun. The moon must travel a bit more so that its position is in the same relative position to the sun and earth. This is the synodic month and it is approx 29.5 days. The average period is 29 days, 12 hours 44 minutes 2.8016 seconds at present. As the moon's orbit decays, this period will get longer.
A full moon occurs around every 28 days. So count 28 from the last one and you'll know what's coming! Hope this answered your question!

For August, 2014, the full moon will be Aug 10 at 18:09GMT. It would be difficult to distinguish visually between the day before, day of, or day after the full moon; any of these would appear to be a full moon.
waxing~ Wax as an intransitive verb means to grow in size, where as wane means to shrink in size. In terms of moon phases, waxing means getting fuller, going towards a full moon. Waning- Waning is the opposite, getting thinner, going towards a new moon.
January, 2012 has one full moon. Two full moons in one month only happens once in a blue moon.
