There is a cheat you can use to make any skill go up or down and you can just use it to put your mechanical skill up to 10 or you can do things that bring your mechanical skill up by doing things like making rockets on your rocket bench or fixing things that broke in your house.
this only works on sims 2 ps2

LGE EDIT - On your selected sim, be sure you click on the little plumbbob icon at the bottom (looks like the crystal thing above their heads). There, click on the job tab (in the middle), and you will see all the skills there. Any they need for work will be outlined, and what they have will be filled in.

∙ 14y agoThe more skill points your Sim has, the more efficiently they can do that particular skill. For example, with cooking, if they have no points, then they're more prone to starting fires or burning their food. The higher you build it, the better they will get. They'll be able to cook different meals and will rarely start a fire or burn things..
Same goes for the other skills. The more they work out, the more muscles they get, etc.

∙ 12y agoIf there is something broken around the house, you can fix it. By repeatedly fixing things, you can slowly build up your mechanical skill. Eventually it will reach 2. Or, you can buy a bookcase and "study mechanical" from that. The maximum number of levels of any skill is 10.
