San Diego is a large city that is spread out into many unique communities. There are numerous tourist sites in San Diego. The most well known include the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World, and Legoland. San Diego is home to the largest urban park in the country, Balboa Park. There are numerous museums, restaurants, and attractions located throughout this park (including the San Diego Zoo already mentioned.) Visitors and locals can enjoy professional sports, theater, and music events. There are many shopping opportunities including Horton Plaza, Fashion Valley Mall, Mission Valley Mall, and Seaport Village. Water activities include crusing the bay, kayaking, Surfing, boogie boarding, jet skiing, and fishing. You can also go hiking and biking. There are wineries located in and around the historic town of Julian as well as in the North County area around Escondido.

It is about an hour north....best way to get there is either take Interstate 5 north by car to Oceanside, or take the Amtrak from the train station near the airport to the base. There is also a San Diego commuter train called the coaster, but I don't know if it reaches Oceanside easily...
