This is not a complete list, as I am only a fancier of rubies, not a gemologist, but I can point you to some of the major places. Burma ( Now Myanmar), Sri Lanka, Madagascar, India, and various places in Africa mine rubies. . Other places that have rubies are Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Kenya and Tanzania in Africa and Azad Kashmir,a state in Pakistan. The one place in the US I know for sure is North Carolina. Theoretically, there is a possibility of rubies anyplace there are sapphires, because a ruby is just the reddest of sapphires. I've seen some dark pink sapphires that will pass for a lesser quality ruby. Happy Hunting. The dig in North Carolina is open to the public for a daily fee. There is a diamond dig in Arkansas that operates that way as well.

Rubies have historically been mined in Thailand, Cambodia, Burma, India, Afghanistan, Australia, Namibia, Colombia, Japan, Scotland, Brazil and in Pakistan.
