Which is the other way around, the lineage that started in Yunnan, China reached Taiwan, then the Philippines and finally the Greater Sunda Islands. So a lot of the ethnic Malays from Borneo, have ancient Philippine descent. People, from the Malaysian province of Sabah and Sarawak do not consider themselves to be ethnic Malays. These people, are more related to the ethnic groups in the Philippines. The Tausug are an ethnic group inhabiting Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia. Though they aren't ethnic Malays, but they are very closely related to ethnic Malays.
MALAYS FROM THE PENINSULA
Ethnic Malays, from the Malay Peninsula (which includes Singapore and West Malaysia), do not have Taiwanese descent. Other than immigrants from Borneo. The ethnic Malays that live in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, do have the same origin from China's Yunnan Province. But they also have Thai descent instead, since the lineage migrated south into Thailand. Then into Malaysia and Singapore.

Malays, make up about 10-40% of Indonesia's overall population while the other are Javanese. A lot of the Malays, live along Sumatra's western coasts. These Malays, also have some Indian origin. Since western Indonesia was a Hindu empire at one time. Malays from Sumatra have a mix, some sharing origins with the Malays from Borneo. Some from the Malay Peninsula. A lot of these Malays, having Indian and Sri Lankan origin. Since Sri Lanka, was a bridge between South Asia and Southeast Asia. Not to mention, that Sri Lankans are related to ethnic Malays. There are ethnic groups from Sri Lanka that are closely related.
