There is no law, and can be no law establishing such a discriminatory practice as denying residency to a citizen of the US based solely on past criminal history.
However, there is no law prohibiting landlords from renting to whomever they want and denying others.

∙ 11y agoi and my wife are both felons. we met in the halfway house and have been together and crime free ever since. we have a 9 month old baby boy. i work full time, i make enough so my wife can be a stay at home mom and raise our children. we have been finding it impossible to find a place that will rent an apartment to a person with a criminal record. We have a previous landlord that we rented from that gives us a glowing reference as we were never late on our rent and kept the place clean while we were there. we would rent from him again but hedoesn'thave a unit available.. if anyone has any ideas we would be glad to explore them. thanks. alewine2010@gmail.com

∙ 12y agoYour status, by itself, would not disqualify you - but the landlord is still going to look at who the person is who wants to rent, looking for good, reliable renters is the job of every landlord.
