There are many places that you can purchase embroidery floss from. First, you can try looking at your local craft store (Michael's and Jo-Anne Fabric stores are bound to have some). You can also look on store websites, as well as auction sites such as eBay.
Many online websites and stores sell embroidery kits to customers. Some examples of websites that sell these products include Overstock, Joann, and AllStitch.
Thread for an embroidery machine can be purchased at Amazon, Target, Walmart, Sears, Thread Art, and on eBay. Other stores that may sell this are local Arts and Crafts stores.
Embroidery floss is available at Walmart, Michael's, & Joann's.
You should try Joe Ann's Arts and Crafts store. I bought an embroidery machine there once.
You want to use embroidery thread which is mostly made of polyester. You also do not want to buy the cheap brands of thread because they tend to break alot.

If you are just getting started I would recomend the Tajima machines, they are the best out there. They cost a little more but have a higher resale value when and if you decide to sell your business or want to upgrade. Most machines are good and built pretty much the same. The control panel and it's ease of use is important to look at and the biggest factor I always tell people to consider is the service. How well will this company service their machine? Call some people who have purchased one from them and see what they have to say. I would also consider a used machine with some kind of warranty. This way you don't have the big loss in value when "you drive it off the lot". If for some reason you decide it is not for you then you can sell the machine and get most of your money back.
hey there im a local from cairns, if i were you i would try somewhere like spotlight or kmart maybe even sam's warehouse in smithfield im sure you'll find some :)
I own a singer talent, so the following is true to my machine at least! You can buy embroidery foots from the company you bought from; this foot enables free movement of the material so you can do machine embroidery or quilting. You may have seen logos on t-shirts etc that look as though they are made from loads of tiny stitches- this is machine embroidery. The version I am talking about is when you control the machine by hand, however computerised machines can be bought when you download a logo to be embroidered from the computer. You may own a cushion or quilt. Quilting is done by sandwiching some padding between fabric; when this is sewn on it makes it puff out in places. If you buy a strong enough needle, you can use it for scrapbooking etc on paper- this gives a lovely finish!Hope this helps :-)
Your choice of scissors can seem inconsequential, but having a good set of tailoring scissors buy online for embroidery is a simple trick. The capacity of good scissors to cleanly cut your thread without the risk of the strands fraying is their main advantage. It is far more difficult to thread the needle's eye using frayed floss (which is already a challenging task).
