Each Girl Scout council determines their sales period, price, and sales methods. Some councils take pre-orders while others have cookies on hand for direct sales. Most councils also set up booth sales for Girl Scout Troops while all girls are encouraged to make individual sales.

GSUSA set up a web site where anyone can enter their zip code and find out which council they can order from and when that council's cookie sale starts.

If you don't know how to contact that council, you can go to GSUSA's Council Finder web site for contact information.

You can also go to the Little Brownie Bakers Cookie Locator web site. It will give you information about current cookie sales and contact information for the council office.

From any participating girl scout. This time of year it is common to see them selling cookies from major grocery storefronts. The Girl Scout Organization's website also includes a zip code search which will connect you to a local chapter's website. You can then input a name and telephone number to have them contact you.

Girl Scout cookies are only manufactured and sold at certain times of the year. Most Girl Scout council cookie sales are conducted during the months of January through April. However, there are a few councils that start sales a little earlier.

If you need Girl Scout cookies at other times of the year, you can try contacting your local Girl Scout council office. Sometimes they keep extra cookies for special events or in case there is a problem with someone's cookies or order.

The only place you can find Girl Scout cookies at all times of the year, would be online through companies like Amazon and Ebay. You could always buy a bunch of the cookies while they are in season and eat them throughout the year.

There are plenty of places in order for one to go to purchase a box of cookies from the Girl Scouts of America. However, it is strongly suggested that one should check out from the main website of Girl Scout Cookies.

Ask a local Girl Scout troop.

Girl Scouts will be holding cookie booths in most areas. Watch for information about where cookie booths will be located. You can also contact your local Girl Scout council office.

There is also a Cookie Locator web site where you can enter your zip code and find information about cookie booths and how to contact your local council. (See Related Links)

The best places to sell Girl Scout cookies are the places that have a lot of traffic such as grocery stores/supermarkets and big box retailers or superstores. Be sure to get permission from the business and your Girl Scout Council before you sell at any business or public place.

Also, contact your friends and their parents, and your parent's friends. Don't forget to ask teachers and staff at your school, especially those who don't have a regular classroom (PE teacher, music, art, special needs, resource room, library) because they don't always get asked. Keep track of good customers and be sure to go back to them each year.

If possible, go to your parent's work place(s) or have your parents take orders for you at work or hand out information about how to order from you online.

There are two companies that bake the cookies. Samoas are baked by Little Brownie Bakers. Caramel DeLites, a Girl Scout cookie similar to the Samoa, is baked by ABC Bakers.

Each Girl Scout council chooses their Girl Scout cookie baker. So check with your local council to see which cookie baker they use. If they don't have the Samoa, you can try a different Girl Scout council. Use the Girl Scout Cookie Finder for information about ordering Girl Scout cookies.

How can it be determined when a box of girl scout cookies was packaged?

Since Girl Scout cookies are packaged and sold within a short time, they do not mark the boxes. About the only way to be sure the cookies are fresh is to buy them directly from a Girl Scout or a Girl Scout Council. Another way would be to compare the box with current boxes because the boxes change every few years. Also, some new kinds come out every year or two, so you could check to make sure that kind of cookie is being sold during the current year. If not, you would know the cookies are old. GSUSA does not recommend buying Girl Scout cookies online as there is no way to know how fresh the cookies are.

Why are Girl Scout cookies only sold at a certain time of year?

The Girl Scout cookie sale is a learning experience for the girls. As they sell the cookies, girls develop five essential skills: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics. The sale is limited so that the girls will also spend time on other activities, not just on cookie sales. Also, by only selling at a certain time of the year, interest in the cookie sale can be created each year. People ask Girl Scouts about when will they be around again to sell cookies.

How do you know the girl scout cookies are for year 2011?

The only way to know for sure that you are buying fresh cookies is to buy them directly from a Girl Scout or from the local Girl Scout council. Because the cookies are only baked for the yearly sale and are not going to be sitting on a shelf waiting to be sold, they do not mark the boxes with a date or a code. GSUSA cautions against buying cookies online because there is no way to know how fresh those cookies are.

35 cents per box when my sisters sold them in the mid-1950's. By the time I sold them in the mid-1960's, they were up to 50 cents per box and maybe even 60 cents the last year I sold. I remember having to have lots of change!

Who are the bakers for Girl Scout cookies?

Roughly 200 million boxes of Girl Scout cookies are sold each year. Since the cookies are sold by weight, it is hard to state a definite number of cookies. Looking at the information about serving size and number of cookies per box, the number of cookies range from 14 to 40 per box. So, take 20 cookies per box times 200 million, you get an estimate of 4 billion Girl Scout cookies baked during the Girl Scout cookie season.
