Answer
I can relate to the question. About 3 years ago I needed some type of of additional coverage for all my dental work. I met my limits on my Insurance and would have had to wait 8 months before I can use it again. I needed some work done, And could not afford to wait. I did some research and found this wonderful plan www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 3 years ago now and they have saved me thousands of dollars throughout the years. I would use them for service my insurance would not cover or met its limits. This very affordable plan includes every type of service with no limits, no contracts and no deductibles. All services are included: root canals, cleanings, xrays, exams, orthodontics, cosmetic surgery and even dentures...etc. It is very affordable and they even had my benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use it the same day. Hope this helps.

If by supplemental, you are looking for "individual" dental insurance, the National Association of Dental Plans site has a directory of companies that offer dental insurance that can be searched by state. You can select "individual" and get the list of just those companies that provide individual dental insurance in your state. The listing also tells you if the company provides dental HMO, dental PPO, dental indemnity (traditional insurance without a network) or a discounct plan (not insurance but a discount off the dentists's fees who are part of the discount network).

There are plans that are available from groups that you can easily join. Be careful as some offer insurance products and some offer only discounts. We chose www.teamcorp.com/tc3185 and bought the Valu+ plan. It currently (Aug 2006) costs $69/month for the whole family. It has Ameritas Dental, VSP vision, Liberty Medical discount diabetes supplies (my daughter is diabetic), an AD&D plan and an accidnet supplemental. I think I paid a one time fee of $30 to join the group but well worth it for my family. I was paying well over $100/month for dental alone.
I don't think it is available in all states but most.
I hope this helps.
Try www.teamcorp.com/tc3185 and look at the Valu+ plan. It is Dental + Vision + Rx + $10,000 AD&D + $7500 accident plan for only $69/month for the whole family!
UPDATE - TEAMCorp has revised and updated the old Valu+ plan now called Health Connections Plus. Still has Dental, Vision, Rx, $10k AD&D and $7500 accident plan but added Emergency medical Assistance, Helicopter Rescue and an offer to get all your premiums back! Keep the plan in force continously for at least five years, you will receive a 50% refund of all premiums paid, or you can wait to redeem 75% after 7 years or 100% after 10 years. At $89/month still less expensive than family Dental PPO only in CA. www.teamcorp.com/tc3185
