It runs from the ECM to the distributor. If you're looking for a place to disconnect it, in order to set your base timing; there is a connection inside the cab, on the passenger side, under the dash, and under the carpet. As checked on my 92 S-10 Blazer with a 4.3l Vortec motor and as listed in the GM repair manual the wire is a tan wire with a black stripe and an electrical connector allowing the circuit to be made open. This wire is a break out from the main wiring harness adjacent to where it comes through the firewall and runs parallel to it for about 6 inches with the electrical connector in the middle of it.
