Although there is no way of knowing for certain if Nintendo characters will ever be in a Kingdom Hearts title, we can assume that they will not, because of numerous factors. Kingdom Hearts has had plenty of titles for Nintendo systems, but has never included characters (other than Kingdom Hearts originals) that were not of Disney or Final Fantasy origin. To deviate from this universal rule would destroy the structure of the series. Perhaps, in the future, they may have certain Nintendo-based worlds, such as "Hyrule" (Legend of Zelda) or "Mushroom Kingdom" (Mario Brothers), but nothing is certain. Tetsuya Nomura (Kingdom Hearts creator/character designer) has never discussed or mentioned the merging of the Kingdom Hearts Universe with any Nintendo based franchise. The only hint (if anything) of Nintendo characters making a cameo in a Kingdom Hearts title, is the short interview where Tetsuya Nomura mentioned a Wii-Exclusive Kingdom Hearts. This doesn't necessarily indicate that Nintendo characters would be featured, but it still could broaden the series, and possibly even contain Nintendo-based content. Who knows? Nomura may decide to include a full-on "Nintendo World" featuring a multitude of Nintendo characters, such as Donkey Kong, Link, Pit, and many others. This is highly unlikely, but still interesting to think about.

All Nintendo DS are region-free, there is no regional lockout. Any Nintendo DS game will work with any Nintendo DS, and any Nintendo DS game is compatible for multiplayer with another Nintendo DS game, of a different country of origin. I DON'T KNOW!!!!!!!
Unfortunately no. Volume 2 is the end of the series. The author hasn't worked on any sequels for it.
