Where can you get the PS2 emulator PCSXCX2.1? |
Answer
No ps2 emulators presently in existance (02/12/2004) are capable of playing commercial games. Such a feat is possibly one, or more years away. However, a few do successfully run ps2 non-playable demonstrations - generally it is recommended to investigate links to these demos on the various ps2 emulator home pages, for programming is underway through reverse engineering (i.e. not all demos can be guaranteed to function properly, only those specified by the software teams have been confirmed).
Considering PSX emulators operate irrespective of the games location, either on disc or copied to the harddrive, it is anticipated that when ps2 emulators are able to run games, a similar scenario will exist.
Hope this response has been of some aid.
Answer
The most promising PS2 emulator at the time of this writing is PCSX2. This can be downloaded from http://www.pcsx2.net. The last stable release is 0.7. It is already showing screens for some commercial games, and even goes ingame for others! Don't get your hopes up though - it has speed issues, and the compatibility is still quite low. Although the PCSX2 team is working hard on this project, it probably won't be able to emulate PS2 games at a playable framarate and without glitches for another year, at the best.
