Many local shelters are no kill and provide the animal with the proper care they need (food, water, medical treatment), including spraying or neutering the animal or by law make sure you have the procedure done in a certain time period upon adoption of the animal.
If you want to be sure you are donating to a shelter that does have a no kill policy, do not be afraid to ask questions. These shelters rely heavily on donations and adoptions to provide for the many animals they save each year
