In most states you can work as a server at a restaurant. You should seek the advice of your guidance counselor at school. He/She can give you the proper work permit and provide you with the limitations relative to your age. I used to own a restaurant in NJ and I could hire 14 year olds as servers with the limitation that they could not use any sharp equipment such as knives or meat slicers. Not every restaurant will hire quite that young due to potential insurance problems. I would look for small deli's, pizzaria's and luncheonette's. It is not an easy job but you can make very good money in tips if you are detail oriented and hardworking. MY DAD STARTED A LITTLE BUSINESS. IN THE SUMMER HIS DAD LET HIM USE HIS PUSH MOWER AND HE MOWED THE NEIGHBORS YARDS AND IN WINTER TIME, HE WOULD SHOVEL SNOW FOR NEIGHBORS. YOU COULD PROBABLY ASK AROUND YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD FOR LITTLE JOBS AND HAVE THEM PAY YOU FOR IT. JUST THINK, YOU COULD HAVE YOUR OWN BUSINESS BEFORE YOUR 16!
