Where did Robin Hood live?

Robin Hood is a fictional folk law character whose story originates from medieval times.

In popular culture Robin Hood and his band's tales are usually associated with the area of Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire (England). Historically his birthplace is supposed to be Loxley in South Yorkshire, while his grave is claimed to be at Kirklees Priory in West Yorkshire.

The sources of the Robin Hood legend are ballads composed before 1450. They have Robin living not in Sherwood Forest but in Barnsdale Heath, which is in Yorkshire. In one Ballad a King Edward makes Robin a yeoman. The only King Edward who was in Yorkshire before 1450 was Edward II. There actually was a Robyn Hod in the service of Edward II. In my novel The Robin Hood Chronicles I assume that Robin Hood and Robyn Hod are the same man. Robyn Hod lived in Wakefield, which is in Yorkshire, before he was outlawed.
