There are three Cherokee tribes today, two of which are in Oklahoma and one is in North Carolina. The Great Smoky Mountains of eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina were the Cherokee homelands from the time of European contact; they began moving south into South Carolina, Georgia, and northeastern Alabama in the 18th century.
The Cherokee lived in Northern Georgia, Eastern Tennessee, and Western North Carolina. If you want to be more specific about it though, they usually dwelled by rivers.
