Where did the Black Death epidemic occur?
The Black Death epidemic started when it came out of the east, until it reached the shores of Italy in the spring of 1348. At this time the deadly rampage of this epidemic spread across Europe. Within three years after the epidemic hit the shores of Italy, between 25% and 50% of Europe's population had become the fatal victims to the pestilence.

The short answer: the "Black Death" occurred in Europe.

However, the epidemic has been with mankind for thousands of years. It is properly called the Bubonic plague. It is believed to have been originated in the center of Asia where it killed millions of China's residents. The great plague and transmittal began after a great earthquake in China which killed millions of Chinese (around 1300 BC).

The plague first migrated to Asia Minor long before the birth of Christ. It is transmitted to humans by the bite of a flea and came with the rats on ships or in caravans from China, India to the Western nations.

The Greeks knew of the cause and the knowlege was contained in the Great library in Alexandria, but the it was lost when the library was burned.

After millions of victims in the 15th and 16th century in Europe, Venice celebrated the victory over "Black Death" with the Venice Carnival. It was also a clear sign to celebrate life again, after years of sorrow and disease.
