It"s a long shot, but there are peripheral glances of a man-made monster in Yiddish folklore called the GOLEM which was visualized as a man made of Clay-or some dough-like substance, like the Gingerbread man. in both cases the creature was created fully grown- the Gingerbread MAN, not Boy. Food for thought. if you follow this line of thought one can argue that Pinnochio was a juvenile adaptation with considerable gearing-down of Frankenstein.

∙ 13y agoWell, I guess the name of the inventor of the gingerbread man is not known, as gingerbread is already very old, maybe from the Middle Ages ?. In those times recipes were not patented yet [just kept secret]. So the "invention" was not recorded with a date to it.
But, saying so, I am aware that the gingerbread man is newer than gingerbread in itself.
-- I looked it up in the Wikipedia, which says:
'Gingerbread dates back to the 15th century, and figural biscuit-making was practiced in the 16th century. The first documented instance of figure-shaped gingerbread biscuits appearing was in the court of Elizabeth I of England.'
