The word 'Sikh' in the Punjabi language means 'disciple' and 'learner (from the word Sikhna - to learn)' , Sikhs are the disciples of God who follow the writings and teachings of the Ten Sikh Gurus. The founder of the Sikh religion was Guru Nanak. Guru Nanak was born on 15 April 1469 in a Hindu family of the Bedi Khatri clan, in the village of Nankana Sahib (after the first Guru), near Lahore, Pakistan.
