the legend is that vampires originated from Transylvania or Romania, but these are not true. the idea of "vampires" has always been around haunting the catholic church, ever since the bubonic plague killed most of Europe. during this time, some people would be pronounced as dead but actually wouldn't and thus be buried alive. everyone thinking that they where dead then assumed they where the "UN-dead" when the dug themselves out of their shallow graves. the actual word came from the book Dracula by Bram Stoker where he mixed different stories of vampirism from different figures in Romanian history.
The legend probably began with a particularly fearsome ruler known as Vlad the Impaler.
